President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated the Centralized Domestic Waste Water Management System (SPAL-DT) in Losari, Makassar city, South Sulawesi province, Thursday (02/22).
The President emphasized the importance of this system for managing liquid wastewater to make it more environmentally friendly and to improve water quality and public health.
Apart from that, the SPAL-DT, which was built from 2019 to 2023 with a budget of Rp1.2 trillion, is also expected to increase public awareness regarding environmental pollution problems in Makassar city. Moreover, this system can provide real benefits for local households.
“It has a capacity of 16,000 cubic meters per day with a 96-kilometer length wastewater pipe network. It can serve 41,000 households,” said the President, while adding that the operation of SPAL-DT will make waste water management in Makassar city more integrated.
Moreover, the quality of the environment and the people’s standard of living of the city is expected to increase.
“Makassar city will be cleaner, the quality of the environment, the quality of ground water, the quality of raw water will improve and the people are getting healthier and more productive,” said the President.
